The Seed of Me, The Light Inside

The Seed of Me, The Light Inside

Good morning, lovelies.

I was walking in the woods this morning, very early, sunrise- and noticing all the signs of spring life.

This message came through loud and clear:

Every single living thing comes from a seed, and in the seed is the full and perfect blueprint for what it is to become. The seed even contains the instructions on how to gather the materials to build itself- energy and sugars and water- and it knows, intuitively, in what order to assemble itself- the roots, the stem, the branches, the leaves. And not only that, the seed contains the instructions on how to replicate itself for infinite subsequent generations. From seed to sapling to tree. Bulb to stalk to blossom. How amazing is that, how amazing is life?!

And the same is true for the seed that is each of us. The seed that grew into you knew exactly what it had to do- how to grow into a human, how to think and feel and create and learn and love. From the little tiny heart cell, a spine unfurled and then a brain and you were built into a uniquely imprinted human baby, with your one-of-a-kind soul and purpose. An extension of the lineage of the life that came before you.

Ideally, this little light of your perfect purpose would be nurtured and the tree of you would grow full-crowned and strong-trunked- with flexible branches and abundant fruits. But, you know, life happens. Collective conditioning, life trauma, inherited trauma, family systems- for good and bad, our experience meets the seed as it grows. Like trees that are denied light or water, or constrained by being planted in a tight spot, our life experiences can contort us, too. Maybe we learn a sort of protective gymnastics, to get along in the world. And thank goodness for those blessed adaptations, that somehow protect and preserve the light of the original seed.

No matter what's happened, somewhere in each person, is the light of our true selves, our true souls, our true purpose. I saw this leading companies; working in the California prison system; working with healing the trauma of war, sexual shame, immigration, loss; teaching yoga and meditation and reminding people that life is for JOY.

Some people are living their light already- and don’t we love to witness that? The way they shine? And for some people the light remains in a little cave inside the heart. But it's always there.

When it’s time, with intention and care, we can let those stories and beliefs and habits and unneeded adaptations fall away. We say "thank you, thing-that-used-to-serve-me, you're no longer needed here."

“I trust that the seed of me, that original knowing, is still shining inside. I trust life, I trust the journey. Thank you for this day above ground, at the cusp of the spring equinox, exactly as I am.”

Be happy, be free.
