The Naturalization Process: Founder Letter
"I was made of this earth. I'm born of this earth, I breathe of this earth. And even with the pain I believe in this earth."- Michael Franti
Dear Rosies,
Recently, I heard a woman ask,”Why do we get sick? Why do we need all these treatments, exercises and practices? Isn’t that sort of a poor design? No other animal needs that. No monkey meditates. No lion goes to stretching class.”
Such a great observation! All the science points to this principle: the more nature makes direct contact with your body, the healthier you are.
The body is healthier when you touch the earth with your bare feet and bare skin, receive sunshine and moonlight on your whole body (including your belly and bottom), when you take in nature sounds through your ears, when you keep the green and growing world in your vision, immerse your body in river lake or ocean, let the wind caress you.
Your body stays in better condition when you live a natural life: climbing, running, swinging, dancing, jumping.
The more you sleep on the cycles of the sun, the more you eat with the seasons, the healthier you are.
The more you train your attention on the interdependent arising beauty of the natural world the healthier you are.
Indian teacher Sri Vast says: “Your mind belongs to the culture, your body belongs to the planet.” He teaches that only when the mind and body start to belong to the culture, do we need compensating practices.
When your body is absorbed in cars and computers, and the mind is trained on striving, competition and polarization, then you need supplements and exercise machines and biohacking and meditation practices.
I'm a person who loves the mind, ideas, the culture, and who can navigate these things with a degree of grace, yet I know that I never feel as good as when I live as a natural person, as close to earth as I can.
I still play a lot of cultural games: I fly on planes, order in, use a cell phone, color my hair, use cosmetics, take peptides and supplements, and get micro-needled and waxed. But I am both internally happier and objectively more radiant when I have been swimming every day and eating fresh off the trees and out of the gardens. So, knowing this, it is increasingly my intention, to put my body in direct connection to the earth and all of the elements as my daily lifestyle, and to live with a peaceful and connected heart.
Wishing you many micro-choices that increasingly bring you back to your own true nature.
All love,
Christine
